The parents of murder victim Lindsay Ann Hawker are reported to be dismayed by the news that the only murder suspect,Tatsuya Ichihashi, has had plastic surgery to change his face. Lindsay was murdered in Mar. '07 and the suspect was caught red-handed by the cops but managed to escape capture and as been on the run since. Japanese media have reported that Tatsuya Ichihashi, underwent cosmetic surgery at a hospital in Nagoya on Oct. 24., and not Osaka as reported by the Telegraph.
Tatsuya Ichihashi, is the son of wealthy parents, both of whom are doctors. They also live in or near Nagoya but have been refusing to answer their door to Japanese reporters. It's also reported that Ichihashi paid for the surgery by cash. How does this young man, on the run for more than two years and unable to work, have the money to pay for plastic surgery?
Before her brutal murder, Lindsay Ann Hawker, was an English teacher working in Tokyo. It's also believed that is how Ichihashi came into contact with her.
It's believed by the cops that soon after Ichihashi escaped he dressed as a woman to avoid detection. It would appear the cops have made a number of serious blunders over the case. The Statue of Limitations for murder was increased from 15 to 25 years. There are calls from families of murder victims to have the statue abolished.
Her parents, Bill and Julia, said they had been given no official notification of what is the most significant development in the case since Ichihashi evaded eight police officers who had arrived at his home as part of the investigation more than two-and-a-half years ago.
A Japanese newspaper has reported that Ichihashi has undergone plastic surgery at a clinic in Osaka, with images taken of a patient matching shots of Ichihashi circulated by police. The man is described as wearing a dark woollen cap and having stubble.
The man failed to return for a follow-up consultation after the procedure.
"We feel very let down," Mrs Hawker told The Daily Telegraph. "We have been told that this is the biggest man-hunt ever staged in Japan and no-one in the country can say they don't know who Ichihashi is.
"So why did nobody say anything when a young man has gone into this clinic and asked the doctor to change his appearance?" she said.
"This is obviously very upsetting for us, but it also raises lots of questions - where has he been living? How has he been earning money? Where has he got enough money for plastic surgery?" she said.
"But the most upsetting thing for us is that no-one has done anything about this sighting, it has come out in the media and the police always seem to be there after the event," she added.
Officers at Gyotoku Police Station, which is coordinating the hunt, declined to comment on the Osaka sighting specifically, but spokesman Takeshi Ootani said that police across the country were continuing to investigate dozens of leads and reported sightings and that "lots" of information is still coming in on the case.

Police believe the man who appears to be Ichihashi has had cosmetic surgery several times. The man had a nose operation after the photo was taken on Oct. 24, but there were no major changes on his face, according to police. (Photos courtesy of Chiba Prefectural Police)
